Recently I have been watching Switched at Birth, a great new ABC Family drama in which one of the main characters is a deaf teenage girl. So far, and there have been three episodes, this show has blown me away in its treatment of deaf/hard of hearing issues. They have tackled communication struggles, three characters sign everything they say, there was a very enlightened description of the cochlear implant decision many parents face, Marlee Matlin has guest starred...and I love how strong and able and cool the deaf character of Daphne is. Check it out Mondays at 9 pm or at abcfamily.com.
In other news, our trip to John Tracy is less than three weeks away! I stumbled upon a Facebook group for the families going to the July summer session - there aren't too many people in the group yet but the ones that have joined are from Maryland and Nova Scotia!
